Rwanda filmmakers Mr. Potential Kabarebe and Jean Baptiste Nyabyenda have been nominated for the 9th edition of ‘Focus on Ability’ Film Festival.

The film festival that started accepting entrances from July 30 and ends on 9th is about telling stories about people living with disabilities.

This year has been biggest, with generous sponsors who donated over $140,000 worth of cash and prizes to encourage film makers and people with disability to tell their stories.

Over 51 films from various countries worldwide have been nominated, and the duo’s films feature in the ’International Entry’ category.

The Duo’s films have been marked for displaying a poignant and yet hopeful message to people living with disabilities.

“Mr. Potential Kabarebe” is a raw retelling but an ultimately hopeful film about Kabarebe Aphrodice, a visually impaired teacher who doesn’t feel limited by his loss of sight, since his young age, and who is perfectly able to teach children, at a secondary school.
In My Destiny, enters a visually impaired Hagenimana Fabien, a talented guitarist whose passion isn’t restrained by his disability; he even teaches others despite his visual impairment.

In 2016, 194 films were entered from 18 countries. Previous years films have been both educational and inspirational and have been viewed in 168 countries around the world and voted on by over 500,000 people.
